When importing contacts from First Thursday into your Artlogic database, it’s important to check for and resolve any duplicates. This article walks you through two ways to handle that β€” either during the import process or afterwards using Artlogic's built-in tools.

🧭 Option 1: Deduplicate during import

  1. Go to your Artlogic database

  2. Navigate to Contacts in the top menu

  3. Click Import

  4. Upload your processed Excel file from First Thursday

  5. Click Import Data

Artlogic will scan your file and check for duplicate records.

If duplicates are found, a pop-up will appear that says:

Duplicates detected
It appears this spreadsheet contains records that already exist in your Artlogic database. How would you like to proceed?

  1. Click View Duplicates

  2. A list of duplicate contacts will appear. For each one:

    • Open both versions of the contact

    • Copy across any relevant information you want to retain

    • Delete the version you no longer need

  3. Once done, return to the Import screen

  4. Click Import Data again β€” you should now be able to proceed without issue

πŸ›  Option 2: Import everything and deduplicate later

  1. Go through the normal Import process

  2. When prompted, choose Import All

    • This will import your file including any duplicates

  3. Afterwards, go to Contacts in the menu

  4. Click Tools > Resolve Duplicates

  5. Artlogic will show any pairs of duplicate contacts

For each one:

  • Open both copies

  • Copy across any relevant data

  • Delete one version so that only a single contact record remains

βœ… Best practice

We recommend resolving duplicates at the time of import to save time and avoid clutter. However, the Resolve Duplicates tool is always available if you need to clean things up later.
